Lago di Garda

Our trip to northeastern Italy coincided with a heat wave – it was at least 90 degrees the whole time, so we decided to take a day trip to Lago di Garda. Getting there was a hassle: it required several trains and a bus, and since we didn’t completely plan it out ahead of time, we had to wait around at each transfer point (including an hour in Padova). We left our B+B around 9am and didn’t sit down to lunch in Cisano until after 1pm. To top it off, lunch was extremely disappointing, one of the very few bad meals I’ve ever had in Italy 🙁

But it was definitely worth the trip – it’s a beautiful area and the towns are very cute, especially Bardolino. There is a very nice path around the lake and it took us about 20 minutes to get from Cisano to Bardolino, not including a drink stop. But between the heat and the long day, we were exhausted. After taking a few pictures, we caught the ferry and enjoyed seeing everything we’d just walked (plus the earlier bus ride) from the lake’s perspective. Then we were back in Peschiera to get the train back to Mestre.
