I was interested to see you are in France. Normandy by any chance? I have just published my first "chick lit" novel and am discovering the world of marketing and meeting authors along the way! I don't have a spare copy to send for review at the moment - A Late Starter is appearing on some online bookshops (Amazon, Border, Barnes and Noble etc.) and "The Chick Lit Club". I'm hoping it will appeal to a wide female audience since it isn't just one woman's acount of being "dumped" but the deeper issue of her becoming the person she meant to be and finding happiness later in life. "A Late Starter" - Lisa Pélaprat

Well, honestly there are really books with that kind of characters that are impossible to relate to. It's hard to find a heroine that you wouldn't call as over-imagined or poorly writen. :)

You might also want to consider Melanie La'Brooy, Alison Rushby, Maggie Alderson and Dianne Blacklock. My website www.chicklitclub.com has a special Australian Made section showing Australian authors and their books.

It's not strictly chick lit, but Helen Garner is Australian and her latest novel, The Spare Room, was published quite recently. It's about two women, one of whom is battling cancer and her friend lets her stay her spare room while she undergoes some radical therapy.

A friend of mine works for Random House and let me sneak a read of Kathy Lette's next novel called To Love Honour and Betray. It's a brilliant chick-lit romantic novel set in Australia. (And I think Ms Lette is Ausrtralian, too.) Very funny, and very true to life. It's about a wife who moves to Australia where her husb betrays her and runs off with someone else. She hates the country but gradually finds a BF and enrols in surf school. I never thought anything of Kathy Lette before I read this but it's lovely and very satisfying - and has a romantic, happy ending. It comes out very soon.

Aw, I liked this one! I liked that is wasn't all rainbows and happiness. Maybe that's just me. I do agree that it was distracting to have the heroine named after oneself, though. :)

Hi Kate,

Thanks for the suggestion - it does sound like something I'd like. I'll add it to my (long) list of books to buy - unless you'd like to ask your boss to send me a review copy.

Thanks again -

Hi, after reading your blog, I have a suggestion for a book that you might really like to read/review on your site-- "Enlightenment for Idiots" by Anne Cushman. In the name of full disclosure, I am the personal assistant for this writer. However, I knew I wanted to work for this writer because her book is smart, funny, and inspiring. Enlightment for Idiots revolves around the life of Amanda, a twenty-nine year old yoga instructor and freelance writer who gets assigned to write a "For Idiots" guide to Enlightment. On the way, Amanda contends with a boyfriend who doesn't call back, an unplanned pregnancy, and trendy gurus who don't quite "get it." It's kind of a cross between "Sex in the City," and "Eat, Pray, Love." Seeing some of the other novels you enjoy, I think this witty and fun book might be right up your alley.
