Happy(ish)

Happy(ish) - Cara Trautman - 1 heart awardDespite the instant dislike I took to Cara Trautman’s Happy(ish) during the opening scene, I kept reading and kept thinking “I really don’t like this.” I even re-read the mostly glowing reviews on Amazon, hoping to find one that shared my aversion to it. In the end, I read the whole thing, and even giggled once or twice, but overall, I really didn’t like this book. The whole squirrel thing was ridiculous, the conversations with her mother made me roll my eyes and sigh repeatedly, her continuing “relationship” with her loser ex-boyfriend was completely unrealistic… there were a million and one things that bothered me.

For example: after describing how handsome Jack looks, Jane says “On days like this, I wondered how I was lucky enough to be his best friend.” I’m sorry, but a good friend to me is someone who is interesting, funny, dependable, and kind. Whether s/he is good looking or not is completely irrevelant. Shallow much?

So I plowed through, but all in all, I think Happy(ish) is lousy(ish).

I’m trying to get through this book right now and I agree with you. I’m on a temp assignment this week and I’ve been downloading free books to my kindle and while I did have success with the first three books I’ve chosen, this one is a dud! I’m so bored that I went online to check out the author and found this site! Thanks for saving me from finishing the book! Now I know why it was free! 🙂
