Arica, Chile

New country #5 on this trip: Chile. First stop: Arica. The city is lovely, with plenty of color and interesting architecture.

One of the most beautiful buildings is San Marco Cathedral, which is made entirely of iron. Most tour guides (of both the human and book/website variety) will tell you that it was built by Gustave Eiffel, but this is a myth.

Eiffel is, however, connected to two other building in Arica: the provincial government building (which I didn’t see) and the ex-customs house (now an art museum).
