A friend of mine asked a chick-lit-loving friend of his to recommend a book for me, and she came up with Alex Witchel&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/exec\/obidos\/ASIN\/140004149X\/lawless03-20\" target=\"_blank\">The Spare Wife<\/a>, which she described as &#8220;fun, sexy and an insider view of New York City&#8217;s upper crust.&#8221; I tried really hard to like it, but I found it boring, mean, and basically horrible &#8211; affairs with best friends&#8217; spouses, rape fantasies, things that some people apparently find sexy and others &#8211; or at least I &#8211; find offensive and not at all fun.
