In a burst of slightly bizarre creativity, I put together a fireplace to hang my tiny Christmas stockings. I covered a plywood base with thin scraps of slate (scraped off our slate deck), I painted the cardboard walls black and then sprinkled ash on the wet paint, and the fire of course is cut from construction paper. Cute, eh? (Click on the photo to see the bigger picture)
No, I don’t have a sand fantasy (though I love the beach!) – sand fantasy is the name of the artwork done by sand animation artist Ilana Yahav. Take a look at her site and especially this video. Very cool!

Today’s Doonesbury inspired me to google the Stata Center in Cambridge – what a cool building!
Here’s an interesting addition to your photo editing options: Tourist Remover edits out moving distractions like tourists and cars in front of whatever monument you’re actually taking a picture of. I haven’t tried it yet, but it sounds amazing, and it’s free.
