Five years ago, I was living in Casablanca, Morocco. A British friend of mine called and started babbling about how the twin towers were hit and there were planes blowing up and it was like a movie but it was real. I had no idea what she was talking about, and since she was always a bit high-strung, I didn’t pay her too much mind. In addition, I lived down the street from a pair of 30-story office buildings call the “Twin Center,” so when I glanced out the window and saw that they were fine, I was even more confused. So I logged on to the internet and, well, you know the rest.

Where were you and how did you find out?

My young daughters were told at school that the twin towers had been destroyed. When they came home, they were mightily confused – the two water towers standing in the field at the end of our garden were still standing.

Saw it on tv. It was surreal.

You just can’t believe it’s happening. I live in a major city and I just remember the fear from wondering if another one was heading our way. Feeling like there was nowhere to hide.

I was getting ready to leave for work, but wanted to catch the scores from the previous eveneing’s baseball games. When I turned on the TV, I saw the smoke from the first tower. Then I saw on the second plane hit live. That’s when everyone went “Uh ohh…..”

I was getting ready to take my husband to the hospital for a procedure. I heard about the first plane on the radio and turned on the television in time to see the second plane crash into the second tower. Surreal describes it very well.

Our world will never be the same, will it.
