Money for Nothing

Have you ever gotten free money? I once bought a $300 bike with a credit card, but the purchase never showed up on my statement. Another time I spent $95 at a store, but it showed up as 96 on the statement. When I called to complain, they credited me the entire $96, rather than just the extra 1. (In addition, I’d been reimbursed the entire 95 by the friend I’d made the purchase for). I bought mutual funds once via bank transfer, and though the money was never taken out of the bank, I received statements regularly for a year. The funds then proceeded to grow by more than 25%. (They eventually figured this one out and I had to pay, but it was a no lose situation since the funds had grown substantially).

    Gee…I wish mistakes like that would happen to me. Best I ever did was

    an extra 20. at the ATM one night….I was hoping it would keep going but no luck. LOL.

    BFN, G 🙂

    Years ago, my dad bought a stereo from a department store. He was never billed for

    it. Being painfully honest, he called and called the store’s billing department. He finally

    went down to the store and they were borderline rude to him. They said he must be mistaken;

    there was nothing due on his account. I finally convinced him to just listen to the music and

    let it go.

  3. How bizarre – why would people be rude when someone is offering them money? Oh

    well, I guess his honesty was rewarded with the free stereo. 🙂

    They did not have something on paper with which to match his offer of payment.

    Therefore, he represented an annoyance. More and more, our world consists of “talking heads”

    (the first line of defense of most companies).

    Recently I tried to upgrade our phone

    service with ATT&T. I wanted unlimited long distance. I signed up on line to get their

    internet special. I unsubscribed from the long distance service we were previously using.

    ATT&T’s service never kicked in. I called and after being connected to the FIFTH

    representative, I was told would cost $10 more per month if a live person did the sign up. They

    suggested signing up on line to save $10 a month. Their web site would not allow me to sign

    up(???).
    I quit and begged forgiveness and reinstatement from my former long distance

    carrier.

    God Bless America and ATT&T

    Don ( I am off to Vermont)
